After years of working on other people's blogs I decided to give it a try myself! I'm a working mom of two trying to get by while having some fun, avoiding a nervous breakdown and look good doing it. You'll find me writing about low carb recipes, beauty reviews and various life hacks.

I love a good face wash. So I was happy to see Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser was available at Sephora as a 100 point reward. Glossier Milk Jelly Cleanser is billed as a gentle cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin and leaves it feeling hydrating. Well it definitely doesn’t strip your skin, of anything, including dirt, sweat and makeup. Unfortunately, this cleanser left my skin feeling greasy and far from the refreshing clean I was hoping for.

Let’s dive into my experience and review Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. First and foremost, it’s important to address a key concern: the impact on skin cleanliness. And as I already mentioned Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser didn’t meet it’s primary objective, cleaning my skin. My skin was left feeling greasy and my tinted moisturizer was mostly still on. One of the redeeming qualities of this cleanser is its pleasant rose fragrance. The aroma of Rose Water is undoubtedly lovely, but this is where the positives end for me. Unfortunately, the presence of rose water in the product is not all that great, as it’s known to be a potential irritant to the skin.

Key Ingredients:

  • Rosa Damascena Flower Water:
    • May also be referred to simply as rose water
    • Fragrance: Synthetic and Natural
    • Fragrant solution obtained from the flowers of the damask rose
    • Poses a risk of irritation to skin due to its volatile compounds
    • Claims such as calming redness and reducing acne have not been proven to be true
  • Allantoin:
    • Soothing Plant Extract
    • Occurs naturally in most organisms but can be produced synthetically
    • Has both soothing and moisturizing properties for skin
    • Helps mitigate skin’s response to more active ingredients
    • Used in concentrations up to 2% in cosmetics.
  • Geraniol:
    • Fragrance: Synthetic and Natural
    • Irritant
    • A volatile fragrance ingredient extracted from geranium
    • Geraniol is capable of causing sensitivity when applied to skin.

The main issue I encountered with this cleanser is its lackluster performance in cleansing my face. It did not leave my skin feeling clean, and it seemed ineffective at removing makeup or even my tinted moisturizer. I had to use another product to ensure my face was thoroughly clean, which defeats the purpose of using a cleanser in the first place.

Looking at the ingredient list, I noticed the presence of Allantoin, which is supposed to have soothing and moisturizing properties for the skin. However, its effects were not prominent in my experience, and it didn’t compensate for the cleanser’s overall lack of effectiveness. What’s more concerning is the inclusion of several fragrances that are known irritants, Rose water and Geraniol. Geraniol is known to be an irritant, and its presence in a skincare product can potentially cause sensitivity when applied to the skin. This raises questions about the product’s suitability for those with sensitive or reactive skin.

In conclusion, the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser may have a pleasant rose scent, but its performance as a cleanser is disappointing. It failed to leave my skin feeling truly clean or effectively remove makeup, and the presence of potential irritants like Rose Water and Geraniol makes me question its suitability for sensitive skin. Claims of calming and reducing acne are unproven, as were claims of cleansing skin (ha!), making it difficult to justify purchasing this product. Buyer beware, that “Clean” label from Sephora shouldn’t be taken as an endorsement.
